Model Assumptions

ALM Advisory Services FAQs
What is the primary goal of ALM Advisory services?
The goal is to optimize the balance sheet by managing the trade-off between risk and return. Advisors help ensure that your credit union maintains adequate liquidity and measures risk compared to policy guidelines. Based upon this analysis we determine our recommendations for your credit union.
How do you address Interest Rate Risk (IRR)?
We utilize sophisticated cash-flow modeling—such as Net Interest Income (NII) simulations and Economic Value of Equity (EVE) sensitivity analysis—to quantify how different rate environments impact your bottom line and long-term capital.
Can advisory services help with regulatory compliance?
Yes. We ensure your ALM framework meets regulatory standards. This includes independent development of critical ratios compared with the credit unions custom policy guidelines, stress testing, and documenting policy adherence for examiners.
How do you handle non-maturity deposit (NMD) assumptions?
We prefer to use the NCUA Standardized Values when valuing your non-maturing shares and use conservative decay factors in developing liquidity cash-flows. However, we will override this mythology with custom client definitions.
How often should we conduct an ALM review?
While monitoring is ongoing, a comprehensive advisory review is typically conducted quarterly. However, significant market shifts or internal balance sheet changes may trigger more frequent analyses. Whenever, material new balance sheet strategies are proposed what-if analysis should be created as requested by the regulators.
What are the risks that Fisher ALM Advisors model?
We measure liquidity, rate, market, and concentration risk using a third-party validated cash-flow model.
Why should we outsource ALM instead of doing it in-house?
Outsourcing provides access to advanced modeling software and specialized expertise without the overhead. It also offers an independent, third-party perspective that regulators often prefer.
What deliverables should we expect?

TESTIMONIAL
What Clients Say
I highly recommend Fisher-ALM Advisors as an asset-liability management partner. Working directly with the company’s president, Ray Fisher, has been an excellent experience for our credit union.
Their reports provide exactly what is needed to demonstrate effective interest rate risk management to the NCUA. Mr. Fisher is exceptionally knowledgeable regarding NCUA regulations and is always available to discuss strategy or create "what-if" scenarios as needed. While he offers expert guidance, he remains respectful of the fact that we ultimately control our own balance sheet.
Additionally, the training they provide is easy to understand and reasonably priced. We have found that the personalized attention of a smaller ALM firm is a perfect fit for our needs.
